About
Calm seems like the last thing the world is today. Climate change, political uncertainty, global unrest, housing prices, work pressures, caregiving, or the constant demands of everyday life can leave us all on edge. Still, people experience and respond to pressures differently. Some are able to remain engaged with life, while others find themselves increasingly overwhelmed b worry, self-doubt, or avoidance.
Anxiety is personal. This is where we come in.
CALM grew out of CAYAC (The Child And Youth Anxiety Clinic) following requests from parents seeking treatment for themselves and inquiries from adults looking for the same, specialized, evidence-based approach. Some of the principles remain the same. CALM is a dedicated treatment centre specializing in evidence-based care for adults experiencing anxiety and related challenges. We help our clients understand the patterns that keep anxiety going, face what fear has taught them to avoid, and build lives guided by their values rather than by anxiety.

Our Clients
A clinic does not exist without its clients.
We recognize the courage it takes to seek therapy, particularly for adults who may have spent years appearing capable while privately struggling with worry, perfectionism, intrusive thoughts, trauma, self-criticism, or the exhausting need to remain in control.
We work with adults at different stages of life, from young adulthood through old age. Some come to CALM with a longstanding anxiety disorder. Others seek help when relationships, parenting, work, health concerns, loss, identity, or major life transitions begin to overwhelm the strategies that once helped them cope.
Our role is not to define people by a diagnosis. It is to understand what is getting in the way of the life they want and to help them move forward.

Philosophy
Anxiety is both a psychological and physiological state. It can feel like fear, apprehension, tension, or an urgent sense that something is wrong. It may appear as worry, avoidance, physical discomfort, irritability, overthinking, perfectionism, reassurance-seeking, procrastination, or a persistent need for certainty. Fear and anxiety are normal and necessary human experiences. They alert us to danger, help us prepare, and protect what matters to us. Anxiety becomes a problem when it is excessive, disproportionate, persistent, or begins to narrow our lives.
Anxiety can also underlie other difficulties. Avoidance may provide relief in the short term but gradually lead to isolation, lost opportunities, relationship problems, or depression. Perfectionism may support achievement while creating relentless pressure and self-criticism. Attempts to gain certainty may instead strengthen obsessive thinking and compulsive behaviour.
At CALM, our goal is not to eliminate every experience of anxiety. It is to help our clients develop a different relationship with it, one that allows them to tolerate uncertainty, act with greater freedom, and remain engaged with the people and pursuits that give their lives meaning.
Our Setting
CALM offers both in-person and virtual appointments.
Our in-person clinic is designed to be private, comfortable, and welcoming. Virtual therapy allows clients to meet with their therapist from a location that is convenient and private, while receiving the same thoughtful and professional care.
Whatever form the setting takes, our goal is to create a space where you can speak openly, feel understood, examine patterns with honesty and curiosity, and begin making meaningful changes.
